Melville Employees Make Strides Against Breast Cancer

Freedom Mortgage employees from our Melville, NY office walked in support of their colleague in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of Long Island.

This weekend, Freedom Mortgage employees from our Melville, NY office walked in support of their colleague, Tina Delcolle, and her daughter, Gigi in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of Long Island. Gigi was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer this year, which metastasized to her liver, bones, and lymph nodes.  Despite this diagnosis, Gigi walked the entire five miles with her team of family members, friends, and her mother’s coworkers from Freedom Mortgage.

Tina was overwhelmed by the heartfelt show of support from her colleagues, whom she now considers family. “I will tell you this: it was my Freedom Family that rallied around my entire family. Gigi has gone from death’s door, back to life now, all because of all the prayers from my co-workers and managers and VP’s. I will never forget how my co-workers stepped up to the plate for this cause, and I am amazed by the outpouring of love,” Tina said.

Proudly donning their pink “Gigi’s Family” team shirts, the group surpassed their original fundraising goal of $5,000, raising over $17,000 for critical programs offered by The American Cancer Society. These programs include providing life-saving mammograms to women who cannot afford them and free lodging at Hope Lodge for patients who need a place to stay when travelling long distances for treatment.

Making Strides is the largest breast cancer walk in the country. The American Cancer Society relies on this program to raise funds for research, awareness, and health care services for patients and survivors. To contribute to Gigi’s team, please visit the Freedom Mortgage team page here.
