Team Freedom Cares hosted their annual food drive for Feeding America, a local nonprofit organization that works to end hunger nationally through a network of community-based agencies. Freedom Mortgage Employees nationwide collected over 31,220 cans of food during the month of November for this year’s canned food drive. Non-perishable food was collected in participating offices nationwide: Tempe, AZ, Phoenix, AZ, San Dimas, CA, Jacksonville, FL, Melville, NY, Columbia, MD, Fishers, IN, and NJ Campuses and will go directly to a local Feeding America food bank.
In the United States 1 in 8 households face food insecurity, when they are unable to provide enough food for each family member due to low income or reduced access to other resources (i.e. children who are home for summer vacation no longer get free school lunches). The organization feeds more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters.
Freedom Mortgage’s New Jersey offices partnered with 93.3 WMMR’s Preston & Steve’s Camp Out for Hunger 2018, the country’s largest single-location food drive. This food drive accounts for more than half of the Philabundance Food Bank donations each year. NJ employees engaged in a friendly competition among departments to increase participation, and collected a total of 17,781 pounds of food.
