Members of the Freedom Mortgage IT First Flyer program and interns assembled 13,304 meals for the Food Bank of South Jersey, surpassing the day’s goal of 10,000. They also broke the record of 4,500 for most meals packed in a single shift at 4,702 meals. In all, our volunteers packed 4,512 snacks and breakfasts, 5,792 lunches and sorted 14,000 pounds of food. These lunches will go to children all over New Jersey who are at-risk for going a full day without a meal.
This is a crucial time for The Food Bank of South Jersey, an affiliate of Feeding America, because many children who ordinarily get free school lunches are home for summer vacation. The organization is dependent on volunteers to pack and sort meals for thousands of children in need.
“Without volunteer support, we will literally not be able to provide meals to over 7,000 children,” said Lavinia Awosanya, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Food Bank of South Jersey.
Freedom Mortgage is committed to giving back to the communities in which it operates and supports The Food Bank of South Jersey’s mission to alleviate hunger. Volunteers like the enthusiastic interns and First Flyers are helping this food bank reach its goal of preparing 1 million meals in 2017. In addition to assembling meals, employees at Freedom Mortgage can donate to Feeding America through the paycheck contribution program,Freedom 2 Give.
